FAQs

Is the race timed?

We will endeavour to time the 10k race for all participants but are not offering chip-timing. We advise runners to also record their own race time using a watch or other recording device. Race times will be available online shortly following the end of the event. We will also be posting a link to a full list of times on the “Savernake 10k and 3k” Facebook Page and the event website.  We are not timing the 3k race.

How old do I have to be to run?

The 3k race is suitable for adults and children of all ages, we often have very young children taking part, although all children under 8 must have an adult running with them.  The 10k is also open to children, but those under 16 must have an adult running with them.

Is there a medal for finishers?

Yes! We have a Savernake Fun Run medal for all finishers in both races.

What time does the race start?

The 10k race kicks off at 9:30am, with the 3k following at 11:00am.

Where does the race start?

Both races start and finish on the field at St. Katharine’s Primary School.

Is there a map of the course?

As the course takes runners across private land with exclusive access for this event, it is not possible to share a map of the route.  A full briefing will be given to runners at the start of the race and we have a team of marshals positioned along the route, plus directional signs, to provide clear direction to all runners.

Where do we collect our race number from?

On arrival, please check-in at the Organisers tent, collect your Race Number and T-shirt (if ordered).

What entertainment is available at the event?

Ice lollies, tea and coffee, cake and the BBQ serving delicious bacon rolls and hot dogs.

Can I run with my dog?

No, dogs may not accompany runners.

Can I bring my dog to the event?

No, pets are not permitted on the school field.  Please leave your dog at home. Please do not leave your dog in the car. This is especially important in this hot weather – we cannot have dogs on the field and they MUST NOT be left in the car.

Can I run with headphones?

Please do not wear headphones whilst participating in either race. It is essential that race officials can communicate with you and that you can hear any safety announcements. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Can I run with a buggy/pram?

Please do not participate in either the 3k or 10k race with a buggy/pram. The terrain is uneven and also narrow in parts and in the interest of safety for yourself, your child and other runners, we ask runners not to push a buggy/pram. There is plenty for spectators on the school field with ice lollies, tea/coffee, cakes, bacon rolls and hotdogs, so please bring family and friends along to stay with little ones if needed.

How many places are available?

We cannot accept unlimited numbers due to H&S reasons.  We typically have a big response to this event and therefore require all runners to pre-register to confirm their place.

Who is the event organiser?

The event is organised by parent volunteers raising funds for the Friends of St. Katharine’s Primary School (Registered Charity Number: 1004082).

How will funds raised be used?

The Savernake Fun Run is a key fundraising event for St Katharine’s Primary School, organised entirely by parent volunteers.  Every year, funds raised through such events support many of the activities and resources that enrich the taught curriculum in school. The school is currently saving towards the building of a small outdoor learning space that will be used for small group work and music. They are also hoping that it will provide a quiet area to support children who need time to talk.

Am I able to transfer / defer my place?

Please check the terms & conditions page for specific details about deadlines for transfers and deferrals. No transfers or deferrals will be accepted after the advertised date/time, shown within the terms & conditions page. This is also publicised via social media.

Are there toilet facilities available at the event?

Yes, toilet facilities are available in the school.

Are there water stations on route?

Yes. In an effort to reduce waste and littering, we are transitioning to cupless.  Please bring flasks, hydration pouches or reusable cups.  There will be self-serve water stations available at the start/finish area.  On the 10K course, there will be an aid station (passed twice) where you can fill your bottle and/or cup [we will keep a sleeve or two of cups at each station in case of emergency]. There will be no water station on the 3K route.

Foldable flasks can be purchased at the event, with the aim that these can be reused at other/future events.

Can I run the route in advance of race day?

No, the Savernake Fun Run is held on private land.  Permission from the landowner has been granted exclusively for the morning of the event.

Where do I park?

We have again kindly been offered field parking by local farmers. This is behind the school car park and will be clearly signed and marshalled. If the weather is very unkind, we will have to make short notice contingency plans. Please ensure that you park considerately and take care when crossing roads with children. Please do NOT park in the lane outside school as this causes an obstruction for not only emergency vehicles but also for agricultural vehicles who use the lane.

How much does it cost?

Entry costs £15 for the 10km run and £7.50 for the 3km, with all funds going to St. Katharine’s Primary School.

Do you accept card payments?

Please note, this will be a cash-free event. We accept contactless payments via credit/debit card and Apple/Google/Samsung Pay.

Can I register on the day?

No. To enable runners a swift check-in on arrival, and to facilitate planning of the event, all runners must pre-register.  We would hate to turn runners away if you wanted to register on the day.

How can I volunteer to help?

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please let us know by emailing run@savenake10k.co.uk – every offer of help is most gratefully received!
